The American Red Cross of Greater Los Angeles is dedicated to helping make families and communities safer. A volunteer-led humanitarian service organization, the American Red Cross of Greater Los Angeles responds to an average of 10 disasters a week in our jurisdiction, which includes 37 cities and 13 incorporated areas of Los Angeles County. We provide relief for victims of house and apartment fires, earthquakes, floods, hazardous material spills, transportation accidents, explosions, and other natural or man-made disasters – 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In addition, we train nearly 120,000 people in vital life-saving skills, including CPR and first aid, aquatics and water safety. Nearly 3,000 local volunteers assist us in providing our vital services to the community.
Message from Paul Schulz
Chief Executive OfficerDear Friends of the American Red Cross of Greater Los Angeles:
We operate with a sense of urgency at the Los Angeles Red Cross, helping people prevent, prepare for and respond to disasters and emergencies. We encourage everyone to help themselves by taking steps to prepare for the next disaster — to save lives, money and property. To this end, one of my primary goals since joining the organization in Feb. 2007 has been (and continues to be) raising funds for our Catastrophic Disaster Plan, which will enable us to shelter an estimated 250,000 people for up to seven days. This $10 million fundraising drive will allow us to acquire the latest communications and data technology, secure shelter equipment and supplies, recruit and train thousands of volunteers and pre-position critical supplies.
We could not accomplish our mission without our dedicated cadre of volunteers who are the heart and soul of our organization. I encourage you to learn more about our organization and become part of our Red Cross team by volunteering, taking steps to prepare your family for a disaster, enrolling in health and safety classes and contributing financially to support our our vital programs.
